Blu-ray Player build-up with the HeatSync
2500 Mini-Client |
|
 |
|
We designed a special HeatSync System exclusively for the new Intel
DG45FC and ZOTAC 9300-ITX motherboard. These new MB's features a
socket 775 Core2 Duo desktop processor for outstanding performance while
playing back Blu-ray. The HeatSync System dissipates heat from the processor
into the case and includes a third heatpipe to keep the chipset cool.

We created a new tray-load drive option for the slim-line Sony NEC Optiarc
BC-5500S Blu-ray drive. An aluminum cover plate is finished to match the
faceplate for a seamless appearance. A custom machined eject button is
built-into the plate.
Update: Also available is the Sony NEC Optiarc BC-5600S
Slot-load Blu-ray drive.

|
The matching tray cover plate is attached to the front of the drive and
ejects with the drive tray.

 |
We chose the Sony NEC Optiarc BC-5500S Blu-ray drive for several reasons:
- Slim-line size takes up less space
- Serial ATA interface connects directly to MB -no IDE adapters required
- Low cost, only $300, compared to $800-950 for the Panasonic UJ-225
Update: Also available is the Sony NEC Optiarc BC-5600S
Slot-load Blu-ray drive.

A simple connection interface for both power and data. The BC-5500S and BC-5600S drive
requires a special slim-line SATA cable which we have in stock. |
 |
|
To make installation easy, we made up a special version of the 200 watt
DC-DC power converter. We added a P4 power cable to the PW-200-V, which has solder
pads for this purpose. We also changed the power input connector to 6-pin
for use with our heavy-duty fanless AC adapter. The input connector is wired to
the converter board with four wires for higher current capacity without
voltage drop. |
 |
|
Shown above is a fully built-up system. Cable routing is very simple and
clean. Heat is distributed equally throughout the chassis. Ventilation holes
in top and bottom prevent heat build-up. For chassis thermal performance
capabilities, see the test results below |
 |
|
Easily add 4TB of external storage to the HeatSync 2500 with the addition of
a PCIe x1 RAID card and multilane adapter. A single multilane cable directly
connects to a separate storage case like our
Mass-Storage 4x for super fast
data throughput. Shown above is the Highpoint Rocket RAID 2300 card
connected to our Multilane Cable Adapter rear panel option. |

Thermal testing with DG45FC motherboard
 |
|
Test Conclusion:
At 100% load, the fanless HeatSync Cooling System kept the processor 3C
degrees cooler (including change in ambient air temp) than the stock Intel
fan-cooled heatsink. The ICH ran 21C degrees cooler and the MCH ran 10C
cooler using the HeatSync Cooling System.

We have also designed a special HeatSync System for the new ZOTAC
9300-ITX motherboard. This MB uses a socket 775 CPU and includes a
built-in NVIDIA 9300 graphics chipset.
